Easy harvests for a little upfront work

I ordered the small size kit in fall 2021 and it contained everything I needed to inoculate logs -- the drill bit was the perfect size for the plug spawn and they went into the drilled holes just perfectly with a few light taps. Everything you need is in the kit, but you supply your own drill, hammer, and logs (the hardest part for me was coming up with the logs). I started my logs in October 2021, and I found my first shiitakes the following fall in Sept 2022. Found a few more in October 2022 and then got a bunch more this past spring in May 2023. I just picked a whole bunch a few days ago (late Sept 2023), the biggest crop yet. I filled up a big popcorn bowl full and they looked just like the pictures in the catalog. I can't believe it's this easy. I was worried I messed up my logs because they began to also sprout some turkey tail, but the shiitakes are still going strong. I just ordered another one of these kits for a friend. This is a great science project to do with kids.
