Sawdust spawn consists of mushroom mycelium grown into hardwood sawdust and is the preferred spawn of many commercial growers for growing Shiitake, Oyster, Nameko, Lion's Mane, Comb Tooth, Coral Tooth, Maitake, Chicken of the Woods, Chestnut, Wood Ear, and Turkey Tail mushrooms on logs. One 5 lb. bag of sawdust spawn will inoculate 20 logs (4" by 40") using the drill-and-fill method.
Sawdust spawn is also used for planting Wine Cap, Almond Agaricus, Wood Blewit, and Morel mushrooms in shaded beds of organic materials, such as straw, wood chips, and other organic matter.
