Shiitake Mushroom Cultivation: 

Shiitake mushrooms are cultivated using fresh-cut logs or sawdust-based substrate as a growing medium. Two viable methods are in wide use today: small-scale "natural" log cultivation, and sawdust "block" or "bag" cultivation, which is used mostly by large-scale commercial operations.

Outdoor Cultivation: Natural log cultivation is the oldest method and imitates nature closely. Low initial costs make it ideal for small-scale growers, but the process is physically demanding. It requires "planting" hardwood logs felled in the dormant season... they can be logs or branches freshly-cut from healthy, living hardwood trees, often gathered from timber stand improvement cuts. Shiitake Strains: We offer three fruiting temperature divisions as shown below: Wide Range, Warm Season, and Cool Season. And even though deciding which strain to use can be a little confusing, you really can't go wrong... they are all amazing! Note: These divisions indicate the conditions under which each of these strains typically fruit, and NOT an indication of which type of climate they grow best.

Indoor Cultivation: Shiitake can also be grown indoors on sterilized sawdust substrate, known as "block cultivation". To get started, we offer ready-to-fruit shiitake blocks and farms that arrive to you ready to start growing. 

SHIITAKE MUSHROOM SPAWN FOR LOG CULTIVATION 

Shiitake Mushroom Sawdust Spawn

Sawdust spawn consists of mycelium grown into hardwood sawdust and is the preferred spawn of many commercial growers. While not required, it's helpful to have additional tools to inject the spawn into the logs.
